Another Success for Translation Company
Gavin Wheeldon, the founder and Managing Director of Applied
Language Solutions, has been nominated for another prestigious
business award in recognition of his entrepreneurial skills. Gavin
beat strong competition from the hundreds of entrants to be
nominated as a finalist in the 'T-Mobile Young Entrepreneur of the
Year' category at the eighth annual Growing Business Awards.
The prestigious business awards, organised by Real Business and
the CBI, are described by Gordon Brown as "The premier showcase of
enterprise in the UK" and have become a spotlight for honouring
entrepreneurial talent and the best in business in the UK. This
nomination is a further testament to Gavin's entrepreneurial skills
after he was recently announced as the winning finalist in the 2006
HSBC Start-Up Stars Award.
Gavin's continuous business success and his ability to identify
a business opportunity and turn it into a successful enterprise is
an inspiration for the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. In less than
three years, Gavin has taken his Huddersfield-based company from
being a one-man translation operation in his back bedroom into a
multi-million pound global enterprise now boasting international
offices and a 54-strong team that provides translation services to
big named brands such as the United Nations, Robbie Williams and
Nike.
Gavin says: "We're a young dynamic company always striving to
deliver an excellent and unrivalled service. To be nominated as a
finalist in this prestigious award is an amazing achievement, not
just for myself but for the company overall. Starting my own
business has changed my life. I actually get up in the morning
looking forward to coming to work."
Gavin, who is originally from Manchester, saw in the translation
industry traditional working practices, and realised the potential
opportunities offered by the use of Internet Technology. So, with
his final salary and his knowledgeable exploitation of the
Internet, Gavin launched Applied Language Solutions from the back
bedroom of his home with the main aim being to offer quicker,
cheaper and improved quality translation services. This is
essentially where Applied Language Solutions' competitive edge
lies.
Gavin and his brother, Paul, 34, have seen the company grow
quickly and the workforce expand. They also now have over 6,000
professional 'in-country' translators recruited worldwide and the
company's global presence has increased phenomenally with offices
operating in California, Paris, Barcelona, Sofia and Guatemala
City. After already moving offices 6 times around Huddersfield to
accommodate the growing workforce, the company's UK office is
currently settled at Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield.
The winner of the 'T-Mobile Young Entrepreneur of the Year' will
be announced at the Growing Business Awards ceremony on the 30th
November at the London Hilton.
