Matthew Connaughton
Marketing Manager
What's the most enjoyable part of your job?
Coming up with new campaigns and using our successes to win new business and showcasing the capabilities of our employees. It should be noted that my job would be infinitely more difficult if there weren’t real stories to tell, or true successes to speak of!
Tell us three facts about yourself, one of which is a lie.
- I am a fully qualified dolphin trainer
- I saved my family from a housefire when I was 11 and was on TV for it
- I once got lost in Tijuana, drunk (not advised) – and lost all my money
What do you consider your biggest achievement is so far?
Paying my way through University and sticking at it. I worked all through my student years too, so being the first of my family to finish University (and doing it ‘the hard way’) is something I like to refer to as the outcome of my Mum’s good work. Anything I do is ultimately down to how she raised me and the work ethic she instilled into us as kids. I’m just glad I didn’t mess it all up (so far)!
What is your favourite song?
Too many to mention, but at this particular minute, at a push, I’d say One Night by Elvis, Get Off by Prince or Everlong by The Foo Fighters. In a minute, however my choices may change to anything by Joy Division, The Smiths, Tony Bennett or MIA!
What is your biggest ambition?
Apart from being centre forward for Manchester United, driving the Delorian to work, I’d say being Barack Obama before he came up with the ‘change’ theme - or the man who made Pork Pies with pickle in the middle. What a genius! I still wait for the call from United, though...
What's your favourite film?
Either Withnail & I, Benn Hur, or Ong Bak.
What's your chosen tipple?
Jameson’s Whisky and Ginger Ale, or a cold Magners
What was your worst ever fashion disaster?
A badly fitting black leather blazer I more or less lived in when I was 18. Apart from that I’d say getting a bar in my eyebrow at the same age. T'is all very sad!
Top tip:
If I were to lump all the best advice I’ve ever been given, I’d say “Either find a way, or make one" "Blame nobody but yourself" and "If you’re not quite sure, don’t do it unless you give yourself time”

Toyota recalls: Reaction and cross-cultural criticismThu, 04 Mar 2010 13:00:31 +0000It’s a marketer’s nightmare. Your hugely successful product has a flaw that affects performance and user safety, prompting a global product recall. UK recession ‘almost’ over. Does anybody care?Tue, 12 Jan 2010 12:20:57 +0000British headlines this week cover all manner of things, from Simon Cowell quitting American Idol, to the grit shortage – but one thing I’ve noticed is that the media don’t seem to be very interested in the UK being almost out of recession.
Why is that, exactly – perhaps it’s another false dawn (we’ve had a [...]
