Press Release
Spanish translation service launched
An over-the-phone foreign language translation service has been pioneered in Texas.
The service will interpret Spanish and English to help the 15 per cent of the US population who are Hispanic, and will run all year, for 24 hours a day, according to translation service Centris, which has launched the initiative.
Subscribers will be able to have a three-way telephone conversation with a trained interpreter and the business they want to use, according to the firm.
Jamie Maddox, chief executive of Centris Information Services, said "With [this service], Spanish speakers can communicate in their own language to financial institutions, health care organizations and utility companies."
Last week, a large team of French, German, Korean, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and sign language translators assisted delegates at the 2008 United Methodist General Conference, held in Texas.
International delegates requested interpreters and translations to help them communicate during discussions, debates and worship sessions.
