Applied Language Solutions – High fliers!

Applied Language Solutions is a relatively new company, but they seem to have years of experience and perfect understanding of their market. The company started in October 2003 with Managing Director Gavin Wheeldon, working from a home office doing everything - sales, programming, project management and general admin himself. Then in January 2004 the first member of staff joined him and Applied Language Solutions opened its first office in Huddersfield, UK.

Two years later the steadily growing company has moved to their current location just outside Huddersfield.

Managing Director Gavin Wheeldon said “Francis has a huge amount of experience in the translation world and we are very pleased he has decided to join our team. Francis has previously worked at Director level at several large translation organisations and is well respected within the industry, we’re very lucky to have him.”

Since then the team has swelled and grown shoots in Bulgaria and California. Now with over 20 staff and three offices they are consistently supplying accurate translations for letters, brochures, websites, contracts and technical journals into over 140 languages. ‘With over 5,000 in-country translators available to us, we can translate every conceivable type of document.’ said Gavin.

Their success lies in the team of talented people and their true understanding of their customers. Whether the translation is technical, legal, marketing or financial it requires high quality and great consistency. “High quality translation delivered on time” is our mission at Applied Language.

They also realised the importance of reliable translation technology to enhance and support their work. They use Trados 7 and SDLX 2005 for all their translators and project managers.

‘I see the biggest benefits in the streamlining of processes to improve upon our quality standards including the QA tools for post processing and shared memory use for larger projects with multiple translators. Being able to monitor job progress should also improve upon our turnaround times as the Project Manager will be able to spot any potential problems early using job tracking.’ commented Gavin.

‘One of the main requirements we had was to be able to involve our suppliers without forcing them to buy software licenses, also online collaboration was extremely important. Other considerations were of course price and ease of use.’

‘Project Managers being able to track projects in real time should have a good impact on our turnaround times, and collaboration using shared memories on larger project will mean increased consistency and project savings.’
