Lithuanian Translation
Since Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004, the need for
Lithuanian translations has soared especially now that Lithuanian
is one of the 23 official languages of the EU. Our Lithuanian
translators have the specialist knowledge to deal with your
marketing, legal, financial and technical documents or websites. We
only use Lithuanian translators fluent in English and based in
Lithuania. This ensures you get the highest quality translation,
most suitable for its readers.
English to Lithuanian Translation
Lithuanian and English are based on the same Latin alphabet and
are both Indo-European languages, but apart from these two facts
they differ enormously. English is an analytic language whereas
Lithuanian is a synthetic language. Word order is not strict in
Lithuanian; a word is composed of agglutinated and fused morphemes
that denote a syntactic meaning.
It is difficult to generalise, but in most cases fewer words in
Lithuanian are needed to express the same idea as in English. So if
you are preparing a document for translation, especially where
typesetting is required or there are space implications, you should
prepare for word contraction when English is translated into
Lithuanian. Call us on +44 (0)845 367 7000 (UK) or +1 (800)
579-5010 (US) and we'll be glad to help you with any questions you
might have.
Lithuanian Names
Lithuanian has an archaic surname system which is quite unique
in Europe. It does not normally use the titles with the surnames as
the surnames themselves are very informative; the ending of the
surname indicates if a person is "Miss", "Mr." or "Mrs." The common
practice in UK hospitals is that a newborn baby is automatically
given his/her mother's surname. It can therefore be quite amusing
sometimes to see Lithuanian male babies with female surnames.
